Filipino Beef Stew
A hearty and flavorful stew originating from the Philippines, featuring tender beef and a rich, slightly sweet sauce.
Ingredients
- β1 pound beef stew meat
- β1 medium onionchopped
- β3 cloves garlicminced
- β2 tablespoons tomato paste
- β2 tablespoons fish sauce
- β1 tablespoon brown sugar
- β2 bay leavesfresh or dried
- βto taste black pepper

Instructions

Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Add beef and cook until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes.

Remove beef from pot and set aside.

Add onion and garlic to pot and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.

Stir in tomato paste and cook for 1 minute.

Add fish sauce, brown sugar, bay leaves, black pepper, and salt. Stir to combine.

Return beef to pot and add enough water to cover.

Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer, covered, for 1 1/2 hours.
