Palm Sugar Empanadas
A sweet and crispy empanada dessert filled with palm sugar and exotic flavors, inspired by Venezuelan cuisine.
Ingredients
- β1 package Empanada doughstore-bought or homemade
- β1 cup Palm sugarcrushed or ground
- β1/2 cup Exotic fruit jamsuch as guava or mango
- β1 tsp Venezuelan vanilla extractoptional
- β1 tsp Sugarto taste
- β1/4 cup Venezuelan shorteningsuch as manteca or lard

Preheat the oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

Roll out the empanada dough to a thickness of 1/8 inch.

Cut out circles of dough using a cookie cutter or the rim of a glass.

Place a small spoonful of palm sugar in the center of each dough circle.

Add a few drops of exotic fruit jam and a pinch of Venezuelan vanilla extract.

Fold the dough in half to form a triangle or a square shape, and press the edges together to seal.

Brush the tops of the empanadas with Venezuelan shortening and sprinkle with sugar.

Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
