Traditional German Stew
A hearty and comforting stew filled with earthy flavors, perfect for a cold winter night.
Ingredients
- β1 1/2 pounds Beef Stew MeatCut into 1 1/2-inch cubes
- β2 medium CarrotsPeel and slice
- β2 large PotatoesPeel and cube
- β1 large OnionPeel and chop
- β1 cup Red WineDried or fresh
- β2 cups Beef BrothHomemade or store-bought
- β2 tablespoons Tomato PasteHomemade or store-bought
- β2 sprigs ThymeFresh or dried

1. Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

2. Add the beef and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.

3. Remove the beef from the pot and set aside.

4. Add the onion to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

5. Add the carrots and potatoes to the pot and cook for 5 minutes.

6. Add the red wine, beef broth, tomato paste, and thyme to the pot.

7. Stir to combine, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot.

8. Return the beef to the pot and bring the stew to a boil.

9. Reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 2 1/2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
