Ukrainian Cheese Dumplings (Varenyky)
Deliciously dense Ukrainian dumplings filled with a blend of cheese and curds. Perfect as a snack or side dish.
Ingredients
- β2 cups flour
- β1 cup warm water
- β1 egg
- β1 cup cheesegrated
- β1/2 cup curds
- β1/2 teaspoon salt
- β1/4 cup milk
- β2 tablespoons butter

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, warm water, egg, and salt. Mix until a dough forms.

Knead the dough for 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Divide the dough into small pieces and roll out each piece into a thin circle.

Place a tablespoon of the cheese and curd mixture in the center of each circle.

Fold the dough over the filling and press the edges together to seal the dumpling.

Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the dumplings for 10-15 minutes, or until they float to the surface.

Remove the dumplings from the water with a slotted spoon and serve hot with melted butter and a sprinkle of milk.
