Ceviche with Herring and Ethiopian Spices
A refreshing and flavorful dish that combines the tanginess of ceviche with the bold flavors of Ethiopian spices and the delicate taste of herring.
Ingredients
- β2 herring filletsfresh, skin removed
- β1 medium onionthinly sliced
- β1 medium tomatodiced
- β2 tablespoons lemon juicefreshly squeezed
- β1 tablespoon olive oilextra virgin
- β1 teaspoon Ethiopian spicesberbere powder or to taste
- βto taste salt
- βto taste black pepper
Instructions

Rinse the herring fillets under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.

In a large bowl, combine the sliced onion and diced tomato.

Add the lemon juice, olive oil, and Ethiopian spices to the bowl and mix well.

Add the herring fillets to the bowl and mix gently to coat with the marinade.

Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Just before serving, stir in some chopped fresh cilantro or parsley if desired.
