Uruguayan Empanadas with Caramelized Onion
A delicious twist on traditional empanadas, filled with caramelized onions and Uruguayan cheese.
Ingredients
- β1 large Onioncaramelized
- β1 cup, shredded Uruguayan Cheesesuch as Queso Fresco or Queso Blanco
- β4-6 packages Empanada Doughhomemade or store-bought
- β2 tbsp Olive Oilfor brushing empanadas
- βto taste Salt
- βto taste Black Pepper

Preheat the oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

Caramelize the onion by cooking it in a pan over low heat for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Mix the caramelized onion with the Uruguayan cheese.

Roll out the empanada dough and cut out circles of dough.

Place a spoonful of the onion-cheese mixture onto one half of each dough circle.

Brush the edges of the dough with olive oil and fold the dough in half to form a half-circle.

Press the edges together to seal the empanada.

Brush the tops of the empanadas with olive oil and season with salt and black pepper.

Bake the empanadas in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
