Egyptian Caramelized Rice Tagine
A sweet and savory Chinese-inspired dessert featuring caramelized Egyptian rice and crispy tagine toppings.
Ingredients

- ●1/2 cup caramelized sugarsee caramelized sugar note below
- ●1/4 cup crispy taginesee crispy tagine note below
- ●1 tablespoon vegetable oilfor greasing the pan
- ●1 cup waterfor cooking the rice

Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).

Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with vegetable oil.

In a medium saucepan, combine the Egyptian rice and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18-20 minutes, or until the water is absorbed and the rice is tender.

In a small saucepan, heat the caramelized sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it reaches 300°F (150°C) on a candy thermometer.

Remove the caramelized sugar from heat and stir in 1 tablespoon of water to stop the cooking process. Let cool slightly.

Transfer the cooked Egyptian rice to the prepared baking dish. Drizzle the caramelized sugar mixture over the rice, then sprinkle with crispy tagine.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the rice is crispy.
