Argentinian Empanadas
Flaky, buttery pastry pockets filled with savory beef, onions, and spices.
Ingredients
- β2 cups Flour
- β1 cup Butter, chilled
- β1 pound Beef, ground
- β1 medium Onion, finely chopped
- β2 cloves Garlic, minced
- β1 Egg, beaten
- βto taste Salt
- βto taste Black pepper

1. Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.

3. Add chilled butter and use a pastry blender or your fingers to work it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

4. Gradually add the beaten egg and mix until the dough comes together.

5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead a few times until it becomes smooth and pliable.

6. Divide the dough into 8-10 equal pieces.

7. Roll out each piece into a thin circle, about 1/8 inch thick.

8. Place a tablespoon or two of the beef mixture in the center of each circle.

9. Fold the dough over the filling to form a half-circle, and press the edges together to seal.

10. Brush the tops of the empanadas with a little bit of water and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
