Kenyan Bitter Beer Braised Cacao Beef
A hearty German-inspired beef stew made with Kenyan coffee, Bitter beer, and Cacao, perfect for a cold winter night.
Ingredients
- β1.5 lbs Beef stew meat
- β2 tbsp Kenyan coffeebrewed and reduced to a thick paste
- β1 cup Bitter beerany German-style lager or pilsner works well
- β2 tbsp Cacao powder
- β1 large, chopped Onion
- β3 cloves, minced Garlic
- β1 tsp Caraway seeds
- β1 tsp Salt
- β1 tsp Black pepper

Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Add the beef and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.

Remove the beef from the pot and set aside.

Add the onion and garlic to the pot and cook until the onion is softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the coffee paste, beer, cacao powder, caraway seeds, salt, and pepper to the pot.

Stir to combine and bring to a boil.

Return the beef to the pot and cover with a lid.

Transfer the pot to the oven and braise the beef for 2.5 hours, or until tender.
